SEEC publishes guides about gambling harm support and helplines for students and young adults. This page explains how we research what we write, check it for accuracy, and keep it current.
How topics are chosen
We start with the questions you actually ask. When you search for information about gambling support, counselling, helplines or the practical steps to take when gambling is causing harm, those searches tell us what matters. Our guides answer the questions we see most often: how to find help, what a helpline offers, how to block gambling websites, what to do about debts, how to tell if gambling has become a problem.
How a guide is researched
Every guide draws on public reference material: official government sites, recognised support organisations, regulatory bodies and established sources on the subject. We check important facts against more than one source where possible, so you can trust what you read.
Each article lists further reading at the end – the sources we used, so you can read deeper if you want to. We link to organisations and resources you can contact directly.
How it is written
We write in plain language. Terms that might be unfamiliar – like self-exclusion or deposit limits – are explained as we use them. We do not exaggerate or promise results we cannot guarantee.
Content about gambling is written with safer gambling in mind. We focus on practical information: what the tools actually do, where to get support, what the next step is. Our aim is to help you make informed decisions and find the right help when you need it.
Independence
SEEC publishes what our editorial team believes is important and accurate. We do not accept paid placement, sponsored rankings or anything sold to you. Nothing on this site is ranked by payment or partnership – the order reflects only our editorial judgment about what serves you best.
Updates and corrections
Guides are reviewed when something changes – a helpline number updates, a new service launches, a support resource evolves. If you spot an error or something that no longer rings true, write to [email protected]. We correct mistakes without delay and take accuracy seriously.
Suggest a topic
If there is a question about gambling support or harm that you wish we had answered, let us know. Write to [email protected] with your idea. We read every message and consider every suggestion.
You are not alone. If you or someone you care about is struggling with gambling, free support is available. The National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 (free, 24/7) is there to listen, and BeGambleAware.org offers confidential support too.
